Annual Surf City Splash & Pancake Breakfast Jan 1
Celebrate the New Year with a dip into the chilly Pacific Ocean. No wetsuits – that’s cheating! The Surf City Splash also features a pancake breakfast (ends at 11) and vendor booths all day.
Law Enforcement Appreciation Day 5K – Anaheim Jan 9
January 9, 2018 is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day! To honor law enforcement we are hosting a virtual race. We will be donating at least 15% of every registration to Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), who’s mission is “Rebuilding shattered lives of survivors and co-workers affected by line of duty deaths, through partnerships with law enforcement and the community.”
Fiesta Association Hairiest Man Contest Jan 13
One of the wackiest contests the Fiesta Association holds. You must come to the sign-ups with a “Smooth Puss” (clean shaven) and ready to be photographed for the “Most Wanted” poster. You then have 8 weeks to grow a beard or moustache that will be judged at the Fiesta Grande March 21st.
Rock it in Aliso & Wood Canyons 5K and 17K Trail Race Jan 13
The 5K is a fast out and back course along the Aliso Creek Trail (East) to Wood Canyon. The 17K (yes 17K, almost 11 miles) offers a few challenging climbs, including Rock it Trail, technical terrain, and nice long flat stretches. Both distances are almost entirely on trails except for one brief paved road crossing.
Super Warrior 5K Jan 20
The Super Warrior 5K, is hosted by Stripes of a Warrior, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit that originated in Anaheim, California. It will be held on January 20th, 2018 at Yorba Regional Park in Anaheim Hills. Our mission is to help cancer Warriors FIGHT cancer financially. We provide financial assistance to those that have been diagnosed with cancer and are unable to afford their medical bills, housing, medication, or food expenses, etc.
The BRAVE Race 5k and 1kfun run for The Joyful Child Foundation Jan 20
The Brave Race 5k and 1k fun run is sponsored by the Joyful Child Foundation in memory of Samantha Runion. The Foundation works to raise awareness and provide educational opportunities to children, parents and educators regarding sexual abuse and child abduction.
Irvine International Film Festival 2018 Jan 25-28

The OC Chili Winter Trail Run Series takes place at O’Neill Regional Park, 11 miles east of the 405 Freeway in Trabuco Canyon and Rancho Santa Margarita. MEDALS to all series finishers!
Snow Day Jan 27
Tons of the frosty stuff is delivered to the dam to enable youngsters to sled, make snow people, and have old-fashioned snowball battles. Children are advised to wear warm clothes and gloves.

To kick off the centennial celebrations the museum will host a festive party featuring live music, art performances, video installations, specialty cocktails and creative hors d’oeuvres.

The Laguna Niguel Triathlon is an adult and youth reverse sprint triathlon for all fitness levels and abilities. Even if you have never raced, competed or participated in a triathlon you’ll have a great time at this event because we will make it simple to get started. Coming soon, training programs and clinics to help you get prepared. The pool swim helps new swimmers feel more comfortable. If you have a few races under your belt this will be a great race to work the winter cobwebs out and get ready for longer races. We also have the 5k and kids fun run! It will include a community expo and finish line festival.
Gray Whale Migration Off Newport Beach Winter/Spring Thru April
The Gray Whale makes the most spectacular and longest mass migration of any marine mammal. Tens of thousands of gray whales migrate annually along the Newport/Laguna Beach coastline from the summer feeding grounds in the Bering Sea to the winter grounds of the Baja California lagoons and travel along the Newport Beach coast during the months of December, January, February, March, & April. During the gray whale migration it is not uncommon to view 5 or more gray whales a cruise making for excellent viewing opportunities. Other varieties of whales including finback whales, humpback whales, and minke whales can also be viewed along with several species of dolphin.

Museum of Failure All of Jan
At the Museum of Failure, a touring, pop-up exhibit that first opened in Sweden this summer, success is overrated. Founded by Swedish clinical psychologist Dr. Samuel West, this shrine to lame ideas highlights more than 100 technological, medical and scientific products dating back to the 17th century that had a short shelf life. Items such as the Segway, Google Glass, BIC for Her pens, Harley-Davidson’s Hot Road cologne, Colgate’s beef lasagna frozen dinner, board game Trump: The Game and Coca-Cola Blak’s coffee-infused soda, because apparently you can be too over caffeinated.
Melrose Trading Post Every Sunday, 9AM to 5PM
Smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles, it’s much more than a mere flea market: live music, a food court, and expansive grounds bring people out to wile away the day, chat with old friends, and yes, be seen. Fortunately, the Trading Post is also a world-class flea market. It’s baaaack. DineLA returns for its annual winter edition, this time extending the event for a full 15 days and featuring hundreds of L.A. restaurants offering discounted lunch and dinner meals. Uncorked Wine Festival Jan 27
More than 150 wines plus wineries, food trucks, music and a beautiful setting—sounds like a perfect Saturday to us. Uncorked Wine Fest returns to Union Station on January 27, sending wine fiends into a frenzy with some incredible varietals. There will also be a bubbly bar, live music, a photobooth and more. General admission will be able to sip from 6-9pm, while VIP gets an extra hour to imbibe starting at 5pm. Tickets include all beverage tastings, with food sold separately.
